In-Person Worship and Holy Communion at Zion Lutheran Church

In-Person Worship and Communion

Beginning on Sunday, September 13, in-person worship services will be offered Sundays at 9:00am . The Sunday service will be streamed live on Zion’s YouTube channel for those who would prefer to attend service from home. The link for the live stream can be found on the home page of our site and on the Worship Opportunities page.

Holy Communion will be offered at Sunday services. During these services, additional elements will be consecrated that will then be distributed on the following Saturday morning for congregants who do not attend the in-person service.

To ensure that we have appropriate seating to meet established capacity and safety guidelines and to have sufficient Communion elements available, reservations are required and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations must be made by noon on Thursdays.

Guidelines for In-Person Worship

Please read the information below carefully. Out of love for each other, please adhere to the process we have outlined as it ensures the safety of all of us.

  • Masking is mandatory.  Each person is to bring and wear their own mask.

  • Please social distance, staying 6 feet apart from all non-family members.

  • We will NOT screen people entering the church; this is the personal responsibility of each person.

  • Please do NOT attend if you feel ill, have been around someone who is ill or have traveled to a NYS quarantined state within the last 14 days.

  • Please use hand sanitizer upon entering.

  • Greeters are temporarily suspended.

  • An offering plate will be at the entrance to the sanctuary for your offering.

  • Please follow the seating directions of our wonderful ushers.

  • Only every two pews will be used.

  • Families can sit together.

  • All others, two people per open pew, spaced 6 feet apart.

  • Singing is suspended until further notice. All hymnals and materials have been removed from the pews and carefully stored until we can use them again.

  • The music for the service is recorded on Wednesday and will be played during the appropriate parts of the service on Thursday evening. Scott, Rick, the talented instrumentalists and beautiful singers have graced us with inspiring music these past months. They have great plans for more wonderful music in the weeks to come.

  • There will be a children’s message, but we ask that the little ones remain in their seats for now. The Pastor will sit in a chair on the altar to give his message. It is suggested that families with little ones sit closer to the front of the church.

  • Ushers will direct communion.

  • Individual communion cups containing the host will be placed on a table in front of the altar. The Pastor will consecrate the elements.

  • Please approach the table, take a cup, return to your seat, remove your mask and take communion.

  • There will be time for private prayer after communion and then a blessing and sending at the end of the service.

  • Ushers will dismiss by rows, starting from the back of the church to ensure social distancing. Please remain in your pew until the usher dismisses you.

  • Please dispose of your empty communion cup in the receptacle as you leave the sanctuary.

  • While it would be wonderful to stop and chat, we ask that you exit directly to the parking lot.

  • Restrooms will be available if needed.

Communion Pick-up

Holy Communion will be offered at the 6:30pm service on the first and third Thursday of each month (July 16, August 6, August 20). During these Thursday evening services, additional elements will be consecrated that will then be distributed on the following Saturday morning (July 18, August 8, August 22), from 10:00-11:30am for congregants to use when they view the digital Sunday morning service.

Advance orders for Holy Communion packets are required for Saturday morning pick-up. To ensure the Pastors consecrate enough Communion elements available, reservations must be made by noon on Thursdays.

When picking up Communion on Saturday pleas adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Follow the directional signs and the instructions of the volunteers for pick-up.

  • Remain in your car. Our Eucharistic volunteers will bring you your packet.
